A flood of leadership quotes came back to me as I wrote the page about leadership styles. So I decided to create a page that listed some of my favorites. Maybe you have some more? Please add them to the comment section near the end of this page.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, concerned citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has."
I know. This is the sub-headline from the leadership styles page. But I've always liked it. And it kind of matches one of the goals of this website. We need a group of people to work together to build change. It astounds me that literally millions of dollars are raised by both political parties during an election cycle, but we we still have so may hungry people in our country.
We need a small group of thoughtful, concerned citizens to demand accountability. And to affect change!
"The very essence of leadership is that you have to have vision. You can't blow an uncertain trumpet."
Theodore M. Hesburgh
People gravitate to the individuals who know where they are going. You can tell by their conviction if they have the best interests of the group or the nation in mind. You can tell they have thought about their goals and are focused. We need focused people to affect positive change.
"The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing."
Do you remember the page about procrastination? The biggest time thief of all? The hardest part for me was always getting started. How about you? This leadership quote is designed to get us off the couch and back on the hunt!
"Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off the goal."
I always got bogged down when I lost track of the goal and worried about the details or the noise around me. When we get back to seeing the end result, the path is much clearer.
"I skate where the puck is going to be, not where it has been."
I love sports. And sports metaphors ring true to me every time. Sort of like the other saying about taking the path less traveled. The beaten down trail is easy to walk, but doesn't get us anywhere except beaten down.
"What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals."
Zig Ziglar was a great guy. When I met him he was just a down to earth man with amazing vision. Please read that quote twice.
"To add value to others, one must first value others."
I was also fortunate enough to meet John Maxwell. His book "The 21 Irrefutable Laws Of Leadership" is featured in our list of classic books.
"Leaders think and talk about the solutions. Followers think and talk about the problems."
The master of time management also has some strong leadership advice. Brian Tracy authored a book included in our list of classics.
"Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever."
I've learned so much trying to put together this website and trying to provide a little spark to help people realize the greatness within them. Still much to do, but momentum is growing. We need to add more people to the team.
"I don't measure a man's success by how high he climbs but how high he bounces when he hits bottom."
General George S. Patton
What a fantastic message. Most of us find ourselves hitting bottom at least once or twice. Some of us have the scars to prove it. Falling down isn't the challenge. Getting up tells the story of courage. A leadership quote that cuts to the heart of the story!
"Success is simply a matter of luck. Ask any failure."
" If only I had what they have...If only I was as lucky as there are..." As that Eagles song goes, "Get over it." Luck is the result of hard work and determination. We don't resent others success. We read and we work hard and we affect change.
"The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will."
We'll finish with another sports reference. But sports or not, this one is dead on. So what are your favorite quotes? I could write five more pages of mine. Please share your favorite leadership quotes below.
