Natural Stress Relief.  As Easy As These Simple Steps

"I'm in a hurry to get things done
Oh, I rush and rush until life's no fun"  Roger Murrah, Randy Van Warmer

Our world today is often moving at breakneck speed  Natural stress relief is more necessary now than ever before.

Here at we've focused many pages on heart health.  We've concentrated on providing information on why things occur within the cardiovascular system from a physiological standpoint.  But we've also commented on the mental aspect of heart disease.  This posting will follow through on the concepts presented in a previous offering about relaxation techniques and how to relieve stress.

In this page we'll go over some methods of natural stress relief that you can incorporate into your daily life right away.  We'll also include the actual direct physical health benefits you will gain from utilizing these suggestions.  I'll begin with the most important form of natural stress relief.

We cannot just go through life on a day to day basis in a methodical clock punching manner.  Just getting up, going off to a job and coming home to wait to repeat the process is as much a silent killer as high blood pressure.  In fact such monotony and drudgery is an indirect cause of that hypertension.

Your Major Definite Purpose

We have been placed on this earth to do something.  Finding our major definite purpose may be the best form of natural stress relief available to all of us.  Yes, in most cases we do need to go to that job.  But the job cannot define us.  And it certainly cannot confine us.  It provides a means of income to meet daily living requirements.

But the other hours in our day are ours to use for great things.  How we utilize the time away from our required commitments will go a long way in determining the realization of our goals.

Look within yourself to discover that major definite purpose.  For me, it is this website.  Trying every day to improve my readers experience at is what gives me energy.  Striving to provide more and better sources of information to help all of you avoid or reverse the pain of cardiovascular system related disease is one of the best natural stress relief tools at my disposal.

You all have something that you would love to do if time and money were not obstacles.  While the money part is a bit harder, you do have the time.  It may take some better prioritizing, but it can be done.

Knowing that major definite purpose and moving toward it will get you through those tough times during the day.  Having something that drives you will power you through any mind numbing times during your day.  You'll know that these periods are temporary and that your time to shine will be coming up every day.

We'll go over the actual health benefits further down this page.  If you have a teenager you will recognize the term used to define our next natural stress relief strategy.  We called it by different names, "in our day."  But it still works to spend some time.....

Chillin'.  Hanging out.  As the Beverly Hillbillies used to advise, "Put your feet up and sit a spell."  A truly natural stress relief method would include fun.  Taking time to just laugh and let go, seems too simple to be included in a page that offers strategies to help reduce the risk of a fatal heart attack.

"A pleasure a day keeps stress away."  Ethel Roskies

But the facts are there and they are indisputable.  Laughter releases chemicals within your body that help to reduce inflammation.  Lower inflammation reduces plaque buildup.  Less plaque means lower chances of blood clots and better blood circulation.  And better heart health.  Check out the short video below.

Some other ideas within this subsection would include....

Nights out with friends.  Spending relaxed time with people you enjoy will literally melt stress away from you.

Rescue a dog from an animal shelter.  A great dog can be a lifesaver.  When I get home our rescued dog is right there, tail wagging, ready for a walk.  She is a natural stress relief dynamo.  I can't focus on anything disconcerting while she is dragging me down the river trail that circles our town.

Do you love music?  Attend some outdoor concerts this summer.  Maybe you used to play an instrument?  Dust it off and play it again.  You liked it once.  Did time just get away from you?  Now you can reclaim it.

See and feel the magical elixir of summer time travel.  Here in Michigan we are blessed with some fantastic outdoor scenery.  Lake Michigan as the sun goes down in July.  Or if you are visiting the eastern side of our state, you'll witness an unforgettable sunrise as it peeks over Lake Huron.  There isn't a prescription drug on the market that will relieve stress like that one morning at dawn.

Read a good book.  What kind of website about empowering books would leave out reading as a form of natural stress relief?  Not this one for sure.  Zig Ziglar will start off every day in a positive way with "Something Else to Smile About".  Some quiet time with a great book will dissolve a day's worth of pent up tension.  Speaking of quiet time....

Quiet time.  Get up a little early and just sit for a few minutes.  Clear the fog and relax.  There will be time to focus on how you plan to make this day very successful.  But for just a few minutes, slow down your breathing, be grateful for waking up, (the alternative is less desirable, although it is a sort of final stress reliever), and just enjoy the quiet.

What about various herbs and remedies....?

Supplements And Things Such As These

There are literally aisles of herbs, relaxations supplements, therapies in a bottle and even stress relieving fragrances.  Truthfully, I cannot add any value to that section of possible natural stress relief options.  I can't say if they work or if they are just hokum to separate you from your money.

When it comes to supplements overall, I know that some work and some just make you feel good.  I guess in a way, that makes them work as well.  My take on natural stress relief is a literal interpretation.  Natural means natural.  Things you can do your self, without any type of pill or aroma.  Sort of like getting off statins with better diet, better exercise and better knowledge.  And less stress.

That being said, if they work for you, go for it.  The goal is to relieve stress and improve heart health.  If a candle helps you feel better and lowers your flight or fight instinct, buy a bunch of those candles.  More on that instinct down below when we discuss the actual physical advantages.

But before that, we'll cover one more natural stress relief method.  One of the biggest causes of anxiety is fear of the unknown.  Will I have enough money to retire?  What if my job is eliminated?  What if I can no longer stand this work environment?  How can I recover from this mild heart attack?  Can I recover?  This last method is......

The Fountain Of Knowledge

Information.  Taking away the doubt.  Providing a road map out of the unknown.   That is part of the mission at  We know that fear and doubt cause great harm to our bodies, in particular the cardiovascular system.  If we can eliminate that fear of the unknown, we can reduce much of the stress.

I worried for weeks about getting a crown.  I have a great dentist, but I've never had a crown before.  And I hate needles.  Rather than checking out the procedure, I just worried about it.

Of course it was completely pain free.  It was done in an hour.  But I still put my body through the stress due to my lack of knowledge.  I'm sure many of you have done the same things.  We spend so much time worrying about things we don't understand and usually nothing bad comes from it.

So a great natural stress relief choice would be found in books.  Or I hope, in this website.  As I said at the top of this page, that is my goal.  My major definite purpose.

Seek knowledge of what you are worried about and that stress will most likely go away.  And when it does, you will accomplish....

Adding Another Weapon For Natural Stress Relief

Natural stress relief is one of the best weapons in our arsenal as we knock heart disease out of the top spot among killers of Americans.  Stress causes our bodies to use that instinctive fight of flight protection.  At times this is good.  If a tiger is chasing you, it is a nice instinct to utilize.

But on an everyday basis, it is part of the silent killer that is arteriosclerosis.  That fight or flight syndrome caused by excess stress leads to added plaque buildup in the blood vessels.  We already know how many things can go wrong from there.  Check out the pages within the cardiovascular system button.  Dr. Chauncey Crandall gave us excellent information about defeating heart disease in his book, "Fix It."

Using these natural stress relief choices will help you win the battle over heart disease.  Add this page to your overall blueprint that includes better food choices such as the Mediterranean diet and that daily dose of better exercise.  All part of the four chambers of a healthy heart as shown in the right margin of every page.

Natural stress relief.  Laugh, walk, share, relax, enjoy nature and sleep peacefully.  Oh yeah, adopt a dog too.  The shelters are full of great dogs looking for someone they can take for walks.  I know it should be us taking them for walks, but we all know how it really works.

Just below is the one who takes me for walks.  We have two birds as well.  They are camera shy.  Our rabbit doesn't like to be disturbed while he eats.  Which is quite often.

Just below is a quote from "Don't Sweat The Small Stuff" by Richard Carlson.  The chapter title is "Open Your Heart To Compassion."

"Every day we are given hundreds of opportunities to practice compassion in action.  We can learn to be less reactive and live with more patience.

We can smile when others are serious.  We can drive our cars more carefully, pick up litter on the streets, recycle, and reduce our consumption.

We can resolve conflicts rather than create them, and we can become less judgemental and more inclusive.  When someone is aggressive, we can teach them to be more peaceful.  Instead of waiting for an example, we can be the example.

The more compassion that enters your heart, the happier and more peaceful you will become.  By knowing that you are doing your part to create a better world-whatever form that takes-you will fill any void that exists in your life, and you will begin to find the peace you are looking for."
