* We do not understand the methods used by food manufacturers to hook us on high sugar and trans fat loaded, processed foods. Too many of us are hooked, just as any person addicted to nicotine. Dr, David Perlmutter wrote a fascinating book titled "Grain Brain." In it he details the growing research that links many chronic diseases to the choices we make in food. This isn't a new thing. We've listed other great authors who have made this point.
But Dr. Perlmutter goes a bit further. He exposes the very real danger in excess carbohydrate intake. He draws a very direct line from the grain overload in our diets to dementia related conditions including Alzheimer's disease. His book links low fat, high carb meals to obesity of course, but also to type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
